A mollusk-hair hose runs out the window of my second-floor Harlem studio, joining via a cupeling flange to another then another, spilling out here.

A peaceful song today.

NPR here in NYC ran a story about the tragic lives of drug-addicted prostitutes in darker corners of the city, which reminded me of this most lovely song.

It was written and recorded by my friend and oft-collaborator, the poet Trevino L. Brings Plenty under his moniker Ballads of Larry Drake. His original is here.

Two or three times a year I sit with a guitar and play his entire Cool Walk Death Hymnal album over and over again. I have recorded several versions of most of the songs.

This album is four covers of friend’s songs, two by Trevino and two by my buddy Ritchie of the band Loch Lomond.
